Yasmin2010.jpgYasmin Urena and Jose Canario

Yasmin and Jose are parents to a two year old daughter. They became homeless in July 2009 after Jose lost his job and they could not afford to pay the rent on their apartment. They were placed in a homeless shelter and were referred to Project Hope for help finding housing for their family.  Being a proud family, Yasmin and Jose were determined to get off public assistance so they set out to find new jobs. They were both tenacious in their search. Despite the sour economy, soon after going into shelter, Jose found new employment at Morgan Memorial Goodwill and Yasmin obtained a position with the Department of Transitional Assistance. Soon after, Project Hope found a new apartment that could accommodate their family. However, despite their strong employment opportunities, the rent was difficult for the family to afford without some type of assistance. Family-to-Family Project is providing a 12 month subsidy while the family locates more affordable housing with the assistance of Project Hope. They are continuing to do well with this help.
